Have you ever wondered how to worship?  Here in our psuedo christian culture, I often feel overwhelmed by the volume of conversation about worship.  Worship songs, Worship music, Worship leaders, Worship networks, Worship folders, even Worship blogs.  I have been raised in a culture of “worship” for most of my life, heard everything I can on Worship, and yet I still wonder, “how do I do it?”

Psalm 71 says it this way: “My praise is continually of You…My mouth is filled with Your praise and with Your glory all the day…I will hope continually and will praise You yet more and more…My mouth will tell of Your righteous acts, of Your deeds of salcation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge…I still proclaim Your wondrous deeds…Do not forsake me, until I proclaim Your might to another generation, Your power to all those who come…I will also praise You with the harp for Your faithfulness…I will sing praises to You with the lyre…My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to You; my soul also, which You have redeemed.”

What a great section of worship scripture!!  We are called to worship; but what about the other sections of this passage; they are what I really feel:  Rescue me from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man…my enemies speak concerning me…those who watch for my life consult together and say God has forsaken him…pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him…

It seems easy to express thoughts, words, and feelings of awe for God in a worship service (with the organization, texts, music, instrumentation, and encouragement of all those around us).  It is a lot harder to worship Him in our living room when that TV ad comes on, or on Sunday morning when the Star Tribune’s clothing ad shows that beautiful girl in stylish clothes, or when our spouse suggests that we spend more time with our kids and less time on the golf course.  It is in these moments, moments when all around us is saying, “pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him”, that we make the choice to worship God.

Welcome to the Blogsphere! The passage in Psalm 71 convicts me lot because I find most of what my mouth is full of is complaint and whining about life and not with Praise towards God. It is an attitude that has to change in me.
